An outdoors Arts and Culture Festival, as part of Yungang Tourism Festival this year, opened at Huayan Temple Square in Datong, North China's Shanxi province on Aug 29. During the two-day event, a variety of singing and dancing, and musical instrument playing were performed to local people.
The opening show was a Guzheng concert, featuring the 21-stringed instrument, presenting many popular songs in China, and this was followed by sketch comedies in the Datong dialect, historical dramas and so on. On the second day, the artist groups performed cross talk, modern style dancing, and solo singing to the audience. A children's dancing competition was also held during the festival.
The event was held as a joint effort by Datong's Press and Publication Bureau of Culture, Radio and Television and the city's Cultural Center.
