Datong Mayor Geng Yanbo met with Robert S. Wang, deputy chief of mission at the US embassy on Oct 26. Wang led a US delegation taking part in the China International Solar Energy Summit held in Datong, Shanxi Daily News reported.

Geng extended a warm welcome to Wang and his delegation. Geng discussed Datong’s latest developments and the ongoing solar summit.

With rich natural resources, a strong cultural heritage and abundant travel resources, Datong is a city featuring both old and new, traditional and modern, Geng said.

Datong has advantages to develop solar energy. The economic exchange between the two parties will hopefully grow through the ongoing solar summit, according to Geng.

The visit plays a significant role in promoting Sino-US exchange, said Wang. Hopefully the visit can further promote cooperation between the two countries in environmental protection, science and technology, and tourism. The visit will also help lay a solid foundation in developing friendly relations between both sides and contribute to the transformation and development of Datong.
