Two neighboring century-old universities –– Shanxi Medical University and Taiyuan University of Technology –– will cooperate in medicine and engineering, according to a partnership agreement signed on Dec 26.
The two will establish a technological industrial community combining medicine and engineering, and a medicine and engineering innovation and research institute to cultivate and train leading professionals and innovative teams.
"The partnership between the two universities will not only give fresh impetus to innovation, but also set a new model for collaboration between universities, and advance education and healthcare in Shanxi," said Wu Junqing, director of Shanxi Provincial Education Department.
He expressed his hopes that the two sides will develop the medicine and engineering innovation and research institute into one of the top research bases in China.
Shanxi Medical University and Taiyuan University of Technology will train interdisciplinary medical professionals based on the integration of scientific research, education and application, and aim to make breakthroughs in areas including biological materials, medical technology, cell mechanics, and translational medicine.
