The city of Taiyuan, Shanxi province held a national workshop on "Big Data - Strategy and Application in the Finance Industry", its first nationally, on Dec 6, hosted by Chinese Academy of Sciences University, the Taiyuan government, and the Shanxi Financial Affairs Office, with a Shanxi Party committee member, Chen Chuanping, who is also the Taiyuan Party secretary, and Shanxi's vice-governor, Wang Yixin, taking part.
Taiyuan has focused on equipment manufacturing, high-tech industries, modern agriculture, modern services and information to improve its traditional equipment manufacturing, with the information business being given priority. Now, with a provincial opening-up and reform policy, it wants to rival Beijing by building a national big data center, in its Fendong financial district, supported by the information industry, its energy reserves, and low-cost electricity. Big data refers to data of various types, with heavy traffic, huge capacity, and plenty of value.
