Elite group riders had to ride a distance of 34.1 kilometers, 6.3 kilometers farther than the distance arranged for contestants of the remaining five groups.

After day-long fierce competition, the winners of each group crossed the line to collect their prizes ranging from 100 yuan ($14.5) to 3,000 yuan. The fastest rider in each group was honored with a winners' jersey made especially for the event.

It's the third year that a round of the Skoda Heros China series has been held in Shanghai, aiming to promote cycling and healthy low-carbon lifestyles.

The series is expected to hold 10 events around China this year, including stops in Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi, according to the organizers.

The race also marked the opening of a year-long series of cultural events under the title of 2017 Jiading Corporate Culture Year. Starting with a sports event, Jiading authorities expect to showcase the vigor of local workers.
