An opera, The Orphan of Zhao, as the finale of the 10th Shandong Cultural and Art Festival was staged at Lishan Theatre in the city of Jinan, Shandong province, on Oct 27.

The opera was adapted from an ancient Chinese zaju (a form of Chinese drama) with the same title in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). It reflects conflict between loyalty and treachery, while praising the noble characters of justice and sacrifice.

The 10th Shandong Cultural and Art Festival staged a total of 18 newly-created dramas and operas between Oct 8 and 27, which highlighted the fast development of art creation in Shandong province.
