Social Security System

The CPC Rizhao Municipal Committee and Municipal Government advance the construction of social security system and safeguards the legitimate rights and interests of workers. As a result, social welfare work and social relief work have made continuous progress and medical and health care condition has been remarkably improved. By the end of 2008, the number of people participating in the old-age pension insurance system at the municipal level has reached 193,500 and the number of pension insurance fund has reached 0.728 billion yuan. It has set up 53 social homes for the aged. In the whole year, it issued disaster-relief and poverty-relief fund of 8.364 million yuan, subsistence allowances for urban residents to 13,300 people and for rural residents to 57,200 people. There are 26 social welfare enterprises that employed 670 handicapped people. There are 390 health-care institutions in Rizhao, with 7363 beds and 9156 health workers, of which 3726 are medical practitioners and assistant medical practitioners, 2727 are registered nurses. The establishment of a new type of rural cooperative medical care system has made great achievement and 2.0997 million rural residents have participated in the system and accounts for 97.57%.

Opening to the Outside World

Since the establishment of Rizhao Municipality, Rizhao leadership has fully utilized the advantages of geographic location to expand all-dimensional opening and extensive exchanges with foreign economic and technical cooperation. At present, it has founded economic and trade relations with more than 130 countries and regions; 16 corporations among the world top 500 have invested in Rizhao and it introduced domestic and foreign capital totaled 27.6 billion yuan. Rizhao has established sister-city relations with Trabzon of Turkey, Gisborne District of New Zealand, Muroran of Japan and Coatzacoalcos of Mexico, and promoted friendly relations with cities in USA, Germany, France, South Korea and Netherlands etc.
