Jiaozhou Bay will be taking on an entirely new look in three years, now that the Qingdao government has come up with a three-year environmentally friendly program for the bay, with several major projects for coastline planning, reclaiming land, stopping illegal landfills, a basin, and a green road system.
A green passway along the bay will be solely for slow driving, with the first phase scheduled for completion by the end of this year. Along the way, there will be wetland parks, around Dagu Port. The entire green road project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
A large scale check of landfill projects around the bay will be completed this July, with adjacent regions and cities exchanging ideas on compensation policies. Qingdao will do a general survey on aquaculture ponds in the bay and provide compensation for the owners of licensed ponds.
The water quality of eight rivers that feed the bay will be monitored, and sewage treatment plants nearby will be expanded and repaired, by the end of 2014. Any illegal construction work along the bay will be categorized and gradually removed by June of 2014.
