Lijiang plans to be tourist transportation hub

The tourist city of Lijiang announced a plan in this year's government work report to build the city into a comprehensive transportation hub for local tourism development in 2018.

Zheng Yi, mayor of the city, released the government work report at Lijiang's first session of the Fourth People's Congress on Feb 2.

The report says that over the past five years Lijiang has been pushing forward the construction of local infrastructure; transportation in particular. Highway mileage now exceeds 638.9 kilometers, the Lijiang Airport has become one of five biggest regional hub airports in Southwest China, and the Lugu Lake Airport is in operation.

In 2018, Lijiang will speed up the construction of five highways connecting it with its counties, including Huaping county and Shangri-la county. It will also speed up construction of the Lijiang section of the Lijiang-Shangri-la Railway.

The city aims to become a transportation hub to ensure that tourists can travel the city without changing their mode of transport. Lijiang Airlines will be established to cover the renovation and expansion of Lijiang Airport and to speed up preparatory work of three general airports in Yulong, Yongsheng, and Huaping counties.
