Tourism spikes in Lijiang Ancient Town

With the rising temperatures of summer, the Old Town of Lijiang has seen a spike in tourist visits, as the local government has made efforts to improve tourism quality, Yunnan.cn reported on June 21.

Statistics show that the daily amount of visitors to the old town has reached 10,000 from June 16 to 18, as the scenic area waived 29 fees due to maintenance as of June 10.

The China National Tourism Administration cited the Old Town of Lijiang 5A-rating Tourism Site to rectify five existing issues within six months on Feb 25, including a high tourist complaint rate, contradictions between Lijiang residents and tourist operators, quality issues of tourist products and tourist facilities.

The Lijiang government has implemented entrance standards for operational projects entering The Old Town of Lijiang as of April 18 to improve the quality of tourist products management.

The old town has 17 cultural exhibition centers, with a new set of exhibition centers currently under construction. A series of cultural activities featuring local ethnic characteristics will also be organized to promote the culture glamour of the old town.

This year, the scenic area launched seven special cultural tourism routes based on the town's history and culture, food, architecture and religions.
