The Lijiang government organized a volunteer campaign serving the local tourist sector on June 15, as the city will soon welcome flocks of visitors during its peak tourist season between July and August.

The half-year campaign included a total of 1,000 volunteers using their holidays and weekends to assist the local traffic, tourism and healthcare departments in preparing for the peak season.

Volunteers also received service training, and will be involved in promotional tourism activities throughout the city's hottest scenic areas, including Lijiang's Old Town, Yulong Snow Mountain and Lugu Lake.

An important aspect of urban management, the volunteers' support has improved the level of the city's tourism services and built a better city image.

"The volunteer service activities in Old Town aim to further improve its environment and keep it clean to show tourists the glamour of the town," said Cheng Lianlin, director of the management station in Lijiang's Old Town.
