Lion Mountain, located by Lugu Lake in Lijiang, is also known as Gemu Goddess Mountain, meaning "white goddess" in the local dialect.
Locals offer sacrifices to the mountain every July 25 in the lunar calendar, regarding the landmark as the embodiment of a goddess. It is one of the most popular festivals for local people, dating back more than 1,000 years.
Standing 3,450 meters above sea level, tourists can get a great panoramic view of Lugu Lake from atop the mountain's peak.
