Chinese Contemporary Literature Forum opens in Lijiang

A Chinese Contemporary Literature Forum and a series of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dajia Magazine will open from Dec 3-7 in Lijiang ancient town, Southwest China’s Yunnan province.

The forum is themed "30 years of development in Chinese avant-garde literature". More than 30 literati from China and abroad will attend the forum and literature symposium.

The winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Jean Marie Gustave Le Clézio, also attended the forum, and he will give a speech later on Dec 4. Le Clézio is a French-Mauritian writer and professor, known as an author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy. He is an explorer of humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization. At 23, his first novel The Interrogation won huge success and earned him the Prix Reaudot in 1963.

Xu Jun, a distinguished translator and professor at China’s Nanjing University known for his translation of French novels The Interrogation and Le Cousin Pons, also attended the forum and gave a speech.

"Chinese avant-garde literature development has a history of 30 years since the Chinese novelist Ma Yuan published The Goddess of Lhasa River. This forum aims to present Chinese avant-garde literature and appeal to the avant-garde spirit," said Chen Peng, chief editor of Dajia Magazine.

Dajia Magazine is a literary journal established in 1994. It has played an important role in the development of Chinese avant-garde literature.
