Lugu Lake enters new stage of environment protection

According to Lijiang’s environmental protection department, environment protection of Lugu Lake has been a key priority of the local government for a long time, and remarkable achievements have been attained, Lijiang Daily reported.

“According to the statistics, the water quality of Lugu Lake is first class. It proves that our city has made great efforts in environment protection work,” said Li Lichuan, former director of Lijiang’s environment bureau.

With the development of the tourism industry, Lugu Lake faced a great threat to its environment pollution. The local government was under pressure, and it carried out environmental renovation works.

The environment protection bureau cooperated with the other departments and implemented the 12th Five-Year Plan for the prevention and control of water pollution in Lugu Lake. Altogether, 15 main environment protection projects were carried out in Lugu Lake with an investment of 421.60 million yuan ($68.95 million).

In 2013, the Lugu Lake Environment Protection Plan was made and approved by the provincial government. Meanwhile, the project has received the national special fund of 36 million yuan.

Now, the environment protection work of Lugu Lake has made a great breakthrough. The coastal residents of the lake have an improving environmental consciousness and have actively participated in environment protection activities. In recent years, the lake has won many awards, including “China’s Finest Destination of Cultural and Ecological Tourism” and “Top Ten Excellent Ecological Tourism Areas of China.”
