Public bikes have become part of Lijiang ancient town, bringing tourists a big surprise, Lijiang Daily reported.

According to Lijiang City Investment Company, Lijiang started the public bike service system on Oct 27. On that day, altogether 13 bike stations with 280 bikes opened to the public.

With the development of the social economy in Lijiang, traffic congestion has become serious in the city. Vehicle exhaust and noise has become the city’s biggest problems.

“The construction of the public bike service system will improve public transportation in Lijiang and bring more conveniences to tourists to travel around the city,” said Li Bolin, a staff member of Lijiang City Investment Company.

Lijiang’s public bike service system contains two parts: station services and the information management center. The bike station services will provide self-service renting of bikes, while the information management center will provide services in monitoring alarm and bike distribution.

People between 16 and 65 with good health conditions can apply for the IC public transportation card with an identity certificate such as an identity card. In regard to foreign tourists, they can also apply for the temporary transportation card with an identity certificate.
