A mango promotion meeting, sponsored by the Lijiang commerce bureau, opened at the city's Yuhe Plaza on August 15. Zhang Weiguo, deputy mayor of Lijiang, Hu Gehong, vice-chairman of the city's political consultative conference, Yan Wenmin, administrative vice minister of the city's publicity department, and Shama Aga, head of the commerce bureau, were present.

Many kinds of mangos were on display, such as Shengxin and Kaite. Express delivery services were also available so participants could order mangos and have them delivered across the country. The meeting began with a mango-themed dance arranged by the Lijiang Huaping Golden Mango Co, and featured martial arts, dancing and a singing performance. The conference had personnel explain the characteristics and eating methods of various mango types and invited guests to taste them. An interesting mango eating competition was also held, drawing in many residents and tourists. The promotional meeting ended on August 17.

The Huaping mango is known for its long maturity period. It needs an extra four to five months to mature compared with mangos from Hainan’s Sanya city; two months as compared with mangos from Guangdong's Zhanjiang city; two and a half months from Yunnan's Yuanjiang county. Huaping county has fertile soil and various climates. It's the northernmost mango production area in China and produces China’s best mangos. Mango planting has evolved into a distinctive ecological industry in Huaping. To date, the county's mango plantation area has reached 161,600 mu (10,773 hectares), and 10,571 households are engaged in the business. The mango output in Huaping is expected to reach 66,300 tons, with 517 million yuan in output value this year.

"I'm very lucky to be able to savor the Huaping mango, which carries a stronger taste and better color compared with other kinds of mangos," said a female tourist from Chongqing. "My family and friends are very fond of it, so I'll buy some to bring back."
