AR map to debut in Jade Dragon Mountain

A press conference for the AR (Augmented Reality) map handbook of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain was held on March 14. During the event, the Lijiang municipal tourism bureau and the administration committee of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Tourism Development Zone signed an agreement with 1trip.com Technology Co regarding the AR map handbook’s construction and purchase. The agreement marks China’s first dynamic interactive scenic spot handbook and multidimensional visual holographic map, which will debut in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

Augmented Reality is an advanced human-computer interaction technology that provides a brand new experience to users. Through invented information and images, AR technology can simulate a user’s real life and present it on devices such as mobile phones and computers. The users can access more diversified forms and more information compared with two-dimensional codes.

Currently, AR has been applied to travel in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as an AR map handbook, which enables massive digital cloud data, 3D virtual reality and multimedia presentations for tourists. While the user scans the map through clients in intelligent mobile terminals such as mobile phones, the scenic spots will be presented in 3D virtual reality. Tourism information, such as travel routes, food and local characteristics, will also be accessible by clicking the corresponding spots.

Through the AR handbook, tourists can listen to scenic spot narration from professional guides and have a “tour” through a “mobile phone museum.”

The AR map handbook is expected to come out in May. It will be a milestone of Lijiang’s “smart tourism” development.
