Lijiang city, Yunnan province, recently opened libraries and other cultural venues to the public free of charge, Yunnan Daily reported.
The venues also include cultural centers, museums, memorial halls, township streets, and cultural radio and television service centers.
Lijiang has focused on the construction of a public cultural service system in the past few years, and the city has built six public libraries, six cultural centers and six museums and memorial halls.
In addition, the authorities have offered audio equipment, digital camera and LCD TV sets to 63 township streets and cultural radio and television service centers.
Lijiang has established a total of 100 cultural spaces and 462 reading rooms in local villages, with a cumulative investment of 10 million yuan ($ 1.63 million).
The public cultural units in Lijiang are striving to improve the quality of their services and to share cultural information resources in a bid to enrich the local cultural life.
The units organize activities like painting and calligraphy exhibitions and cultural performances, and they also arrange for books to be sent to the villages and to hold performances for the villagers.
The city also has 30 film projection teams and they have screened a total of 1,106 films for people living in remote areas.
