Naxi dishes are the most typical traditional Lijiang food. However, tourists can still find Chengdu or Sichuan restaurants in or outside the old town. Mushrooms, such as morel and matsutake, are usually used in Naxi dishes because of their wonderful taste and rich nutrition. Salmon and cured chops are also very popular in Lijiang.

If you happen to meet people from the Yi ethnic group selling mushrooms while traveling in the mountains, you can buy the mushrooms at a lower price compared to those sold downtown.

Sifang Street in the Old Town of Dayan is famous for its variety of snacks. Scores of small restaurants line both sides of the street, selling different kinds of rice noodles. Sifang Street is also called Rice Noodle Street.

Cheap and tasty local snacks can be found in the farm produce markets and Huadu Trade Store. Roasted insects are also a kind of special snack here.

The night fairs are mostly held on New Street near the Old Town of Lijiang. The stands are mostly owned by local residents and usually stay open from seven or eight in the evening until midnight or later. Many people like to go to the night fairs to enjoy delicious snacks and chat with tourists from other places.
