Indian Culture Festival staged in Lijiang

The “Indian Culture Festival” was held at Lijiang International Nationality Culture Center on July 24 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and India.

An Indian “Bollywood” troupe, lead by Indian Ambassador S.Jaishankar, presented the luxurious scenes and performance from Indian Bombay Film Shooting Base for thousands of Lijiang citizens.

Guo Hua, party secretary of Lijiang, said that over 2000 years of history, Chinese and Indians have been firm and ancient friends. Lijiang, serving as a key hub in Ancient Tea Horse Road between China and India, has always been a bridge for trade and other forms of communication.

Indian Ambassador S.Jaishankar said that he is very glad to bring the unique traditional Indian culture and performance to Lijiang citizens, and hopefully this visit can impress them with Indian culture.

The 90-minute performance reflects 40 years of history of splendiferous Bollywood films. The songs are Lijiang citizens appreciated the three different types of dance—traditional dance, folk festival dance and wedding dance—and familiar songs from movies like “Bombay” and “Slumdog Millionaire.”

The “Indian Culture Festival” was hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and its Indian counterpart. This troupe will tour 48 Chinese cities like Beijing, Guangzhou and Lijiang, with a series of cultural and trading activities to deepen the understanding and enmity between the two countries.
