A summer camp for students with a theme of “Remember the History and Create a Better Future,” opened in Shenyang, Liaoning province, on Aug 7.
More than 100 young students from Taiwan and the Chinese mainland participated in the opening ceremony at Marshal Zhang's Mansion Museum, the first cross-Straits exchanges base in Northeast China.
The eight-day summer camp features activities including an anti-war themed concert, commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the founding of Fengyong University, and visits to Shenyang Palace Museum and two royal tombs from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), in order to promote the history and culture of Liaoning to Taiwan students.
Wang Zhenyu, deputy director of the Department of Exchange of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council PRC, attended the opening ceremony and made an address. Ma Ge, sub-inspector of the Taiwan Affairs Office of Liaoning Province, gave the flag to the student representative.
Wang expressed his hopes that the summer camp would help students from Taiwan enhance their understanding of Chinese history and culture, and see the economic and social achievements of the Chinese mainland. Wang said that students from Taiwan are welcome to study, work and start businesses on the Chinese mainland.
