On May 21, 2014, the first bridge pile was set into the Yangtze River, marking the commencement of construction for the main body structure of the Hutong (Shanghai-Nantong) Yangtze River Bridge.
Construction of the bridge across the Yangtze River formally started on March 1 this year, and demolition and relocation work has been finished.
As a joint project of the Shanghai-Nantong Railway, the massive 11.08-kilometer bridge is a dual-use (railway and highway) bridge. The main bridge is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge, linking up Nantong city in the north and Zhangjiagang on the other side.
The project is expected to complete by the end of August 2018.
