The traditional Chinese handicraft of paper-cutting attended Expo Milano 2015 Nanjing Week on July 7.

Nanjing Week acts as a city promotion for the capital of Jiangsu province and will last until July 13.

Paper-cutting is an intangible cultural heritage of the city and is on display at “Nanjing Boxes” – an installation consisting of 15 reconstructed containers for the purpose of holding cultural exhibitions.

One visitor local to Milan with the surname Staifenia was very interested in the handicraft. He went to the Nanjing Box twice to discuss the paper-cutting industry with Chen Yao, a paper-cutting artist from China. Staifenia suggested that the paper-cutting art could be adopted into modern interior design, such as curtain design.

Chen was amazed by his ideas and said that “Milan is the world design capital. It is the most precious thing for me to exchange thoughts and get inspiration here.”
