With the last large-scale original modern flower drum opera staging at the Hunan Opera Performance Center on Nov 9, the 2nd National Flower Drum Opera Festival ended in warm applause.

The festival chose six major stage plays and 10 small stage traditional and newly created flower-drum operas from the provinces of Anhui, Henan, Hubei, and Hunan.

It used live viewing and live-broadcast to attract attention. Nearly 10,000 people entered the theatre to watch the performance and over one milliom people took part in the festival online.

Luo Tao, vice president of Jingmen Art Troupe, Hubei province, said that the festival is great for actors and troupes. For actors, they can compete, learn, and promote themselves; for the troupe, they can communicate work styles, stage presentations and protect the inheritance of the flower drum opera.
