Matthew Effect: talents gather here
2009-04-17

A group of people, known as the gold-collar workers, have the will to face the next adventure and challenge, are eager to uncover extra room for growth, keen to find their professional niche. They were able to find, in the Business Park, a sense of accomplishment.

A group of people, known as the gray-collar workers, are people with more professional knowledge than blue-collar workers and more professional skills and practical trainings than ordinary college graduates. They found, in the Business Park, a sense of belonging.

Following the first ray of early morning sunshine, groups of well-dressed gold-collar workers and gray-collar workers carrying their laptops, quickly walk into the business buildings. This has become the unique scene of the emerging Huaqiao International Service Business Park.

In the past three years, talents continue to gather in the Business Park, demonstrating the "Matthew Effect." In the near future, when the size of the team grows to 300,000 these people will become the most valuable asset and the most competitive resource of the International Service Business Park!

Business Leaders:Business Park is fertile ground to realize dreams

Flashback: On February 2, during the construction launching ceremony of Suzhou city’s major project, Mr. Bi Feng, General Manager of Kunshan Tangram Communications Technology Ltd., said "The financial crisis, triggered by the crumbling US subprime-loan system, continues to intensify, spreading the turmoil of the financial sector to the real economy. As the outsourcing call center leader in China, Tangram was inevitably impacted by the financial crisis and was aware of the alarming challenge and great responsibilities of the company. People have asked me this question: in the financial crisis, cash is king, is it wise for Tangram to invest and build a new industrial park in such circumstances. I think that Tangram should not only invest in Huaqiao, but also invest in the long term and on a large scale. We have chosen Huaqiao, Kunshan because of its unparalleled business advantages."

There are many entrepreneurial business leaders like Bi Feng in the Huaqiao International Service Business Park. In the future, Bi Feng’s company plans to invest nearly 200 million yuan to build a service outsourcing industrial park in the core area of the Business Park, supporting Tangram’s goal to expand the breadth and depth of the business’ development. Upon the completion of the project, the industrial park is to have 5,000 seats in the call center, becoming China’s largest outsourcing call center, and is to gradually expand to software R&D outsourcing and other related industries. Currently, the preparatory work of construction is done and the industrial park is expected to be completed in a year’s time and begin operation next year.

The development of the modern service industry, especially in undertaking transfers of the international service industry, requires two necessary conditions: the first is technology, the second is talented professionals. Without professionals or technical support, any business development of the modern service industry in the Business Park would just be empty talk, and the creation of an industrial cluster would never happen.

Under such circumstances, the Business Park actively studied Singapore’s successful experience in attracting talented professionals. Taking full advantage of the new policy on giving professionals incentives, the Business Park strives to create an excellent living environment for these talented people, for entrepreneurs to build their businesses, and for becoming a "strong magnetic field" to attract service industry professionals in the Yangtze River Delta area.

The backbone professionals of France-based Capgemini China Global Delivery & Share Service Center all migrated from their China’s headquarters in Shanghai to Huaqiao. Top level executives of France-based Capgemini visit Huaqiao six times a year to inspect the working progress. Seiichi Asaka, CEO of NSK, who carries the dream of operating the largest overseas R&D center, undertakes another new venture in Huaqiao. Catering to Shanghai’s overflow business, Huaqiao International Service Business Park provides a first-class business environment, attracts tens of thousands of Shanghai’s overflow of professionals in the financial industry, laying a solid foundation for the development of Huaqiao’s financial BPO industry. Settled in the Business Park, China Data Group (Suzhou) not only has Yang Peng, who was one of the top ten service outsourcing leaders in China in 2008, as its CEO, its management team members are also drawn from leading financial institutions and the world’s leading service companies. Today, the model of "talented leaders + founding team" has become the typical characteristic of many service outsourcing enterprises in the Business Park.
