Opera contest kicks off in Nanyang

Nanyang in Henan province witnessed the start of  the city's eighth opera contest on Oct 18.

As many as 24 opera troupes from around the city have attended to compete, displaying various specialized and local operatic styles including Wanbang Opera, Yuju Opera, Quju Opera and Yueju Opera.

The performance was initiated by the department of culture, radio, film, TV, press and publication of Nanyang to carry the torch of traditional local opera culture.

The contest will last for over a month until Nov 24 when the prize-awarding and closing ceremonies will be held.

Local residents are welcome to get tickets for free by registering with their ID cards.
