Nanyang in Henan province plans to increase its investment in animal husbandry by placing 27.5 billion yuan ($4.24 billion) in 70 projects during the 13th Five-Year Plan period from 2016 to 2020, according to Nanyang's bureau of animal husbandry.

The projects will cover aquatic breeding, slaughter and processing, ecological environment protection, local variety resources exploitation, forage grass and fodder development, harmless treatment and informatization.

A total of 9.07 billion yuan will be invested in four major projects, with an anticipated yield of about 24.1 billion yuan.

By 2020, Nanyang's animal husbandry industry is expected to reach an output value of 38 billion yuan, 40 percent of the total value of the area's agricultural output. The standardized rate of livestock breeding is targeted at 85 percent and the harmless treatment rate of fecal residue and waste water is planned to be 90 percent.

According to the governmental plan, 70 percent of farms will be included in an industrialized management system and above 85 percent of animal production will come under trace management. Six competitive industry areas will be built, producing beef cattle, live pigs, dairy, broiler chickens, laying hens and mutton sheep.
