As the Eco Forum Global Annual Conference Guiyang 2014 opens this week, one of its sub-forums, the 2014 Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Ethnic Culture Forum, will be held on July 11 and 12 in Kaili city, Guizhou province.
Kaili is home to the Miao and Dong ethnic culture, and the sub-forum, with a theme of "Thousand Years of Ecology and Green Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Prefecture",is designed to present the Miao and Dong culture and ecology to the world through the platform and discuss the relationship between ethnic culture, nature and ecology.
The sub-forum will contain three sections: folk culture field trip, academic exchange and public lectures.
Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture is located upstream of Changjiang River and Pearl River and is the natural barrier for the mid and downstream of Changjiang River.
The prefecture, known as "Natural Air Conditioner" and "Natural Oxygen Bar",has more than 50 national intangible culture heritage items, as well as the Miaoling National Geological Park.
Guided by the principles of respecting nature, following natural laws and protecting nature, the ecological environment of Qiandongnan prefecture is protected through a green, recycling and low carbon development and an energy-saving and environment-friendly lifestyle.
Nearly 100 politicians, professionals and journalists will attend the forum and discuss three agenda items: the relationship between humans and nature, the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage and the modernization of ecological civilization.
