Hechi's Dahua Yao autonomous county has invested 91.32 million yuan ($14.2 million) in implementing 22 village promotion projects and renovating 220 private homes in an area covering 112,000 square meters, Hechi Daily reported on May 11.
Dahua has a large hydropower generation capacity and is home to two national hydropower stations, with a total installed capacity of 2.4 million kilowatts and an annual generating capacity of 11.8 billion kilowatt-hours. While the growth of reservoirs caused by the development of hydropower brought benefits to the area, it also meant that some local residents needed to be resettled to new homes on higher ground.
Thanks to the village promotion projects, the resettlement areas have taken on a whole new look, benefiting over 20,000 residents. For example, the county has pushed forward the promotion project in Yantan hydropower station area, to promote the development of distinctive homestays and local tourism.
In addition, infrastructure such as roads and facilities like parking lots have been improved, with a significant effort made to clean up sewage and garbage. Greenery has also been planted alongside local highways in an effort to beautify the area.
Meanwhile, the county has developed industries to increase the incomes of locals. Relying on its natural resources, Dahua has opened several fruit and camellia oleifera growing centers, as well as livestock breeding bases.
