The tourism industry in Hechi's Bama Yao autonomous county has been booming in recent years thanks to efforts to improve the area's environment.

In recent years, a number of rural tourism sites have been established, such as Pona village and Renshouyuan Scenic Area, further promoting the economic development of the county.

Bama received 6.4 million tourists and reported total tourism consumption of 6.7 billion yuan ($1 billion) in 2020. And its GDP hit 8.5 billion yuan, increasing 9 percent year-on-year; while its fiscal revenue increased 9.64 percent year-on-year. Bama was also honored as China's annual healthcare tourism destination.

While developing Bama as a destination for medical tourism, the county always took care to protect its environment, said Huang Yanfei, director of the Bama culture, radio, television, sports and tourism bureau.
