Hechi reports increased spending on water projects

The city of Hechi implemented 87 water conservancy infrastructure projects last year, with a total investment of 835 million yuan ($129 million) - exceeding its annual investment target.

Construction of water conservancy infrastructure was accelerated across the city in 2020. For example, the city worked to finish construction on seven water source projects ahead of schedule, including the expansion of Nandan Tianshengqiao Reservoir at a cost of 496 million yuan.

It has also completed 24 river improvement projects, nine key water and soil conservation projects, six reservoir reinforcement projects, and five resource protection projects.

In addition, a total of 340 million yuan was invested in 4,894 rural water supply projects and 187 rural drinking water repair and maintenance projects. A total of 163,000 residents living in rural areas now have guaranteed access to safe drinking water.

Last year also saw a significant improvement in safety, with no accidents reported at water sites anywhere in the city. In 2020, Hechi ranked third in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region for its operation of the "River chief system".

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
