Hechi has organized people from all walks of life to carry out a tree-planting campaign this spring.

The city had planted more than 130,000 mu (8,666 hectares) of trees, completing more than 50 percent of its annual target by March 17.

Of this total, over 3.8 million trees have been planted by volunteers, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the annual target for voluntary planting.

"In order to make full preparations, we organized 121 towns and villages at the end of 2020, to raise their awareness about afforestation potential in 2021, formulate the afforestation plan scientifically, and prepare the seedlings in time," said Wei Xingli, director of Hechi forestry bureau.

"Meanwhile, forestry technicians were organized to publicize afforestation according to local conditions in the villages," added Wei.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
