221,000 people in Guangxi suffer low-temperature disaster

Many cities and regions in Guangxi suffered a low-temperature disaster by the recent super-strong cold wave.

According to latest data from the Department of Civil Affairs of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a total of 221,000 people had been affected by the disaster as of 4:30 pm on Jan 27.

The cold weather brought crop damage to 17,720 hectares, 170 hectares of which suffered total crop failure. The disaster also damaged 14 households belonging to farmers.

The sudden drop in temperature and snowfall began on Jan 23 and lasted for four days before the temperatures began to rise on Jan 27.

Governments of damaged areas are vigorously organizing local residents to carry out self-rescue after the disaster.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
