birdFangchenggang held a 10-day research boost activity attended by 112 PhD candidates and postgraduate students, which ended on July 12, Fangchenggang Daily reported.
The researchers came from 22 renowned Chinese institutions of higher learning such as Zhejiang Ocean University, Peking University, Tsinghua University and University of Science and Technology Beijing.
This is Zhejiang Ocean University's fourth time since 2012 to attend such an activity at Fangchenggang, the largest port in West China, with an aim to facilitate cooperation between the two sides. A total of 13 students from the school did research on Fangchenggang's economic construction, aqua-culture, marine fishing, fishing boat maintenance, agricultural cultivation and port construction during the event.
The shortage of high-skilled talents in Fangchenggang has become a prominent problem restricting its development. Therefore, the city maintains close cooperation with the school. More than 40 outstanding postgraduates from Zhejiang Ocean University did summer social practice in Fangchenggang over the past four years, and many stayed on, getting jobs and living there.
Yan Anqi, an enrolled postgraduate student in marine biology major, stated at the activity's launch ceremony that it was her second time to do research in Fangchenggang and that she had learned much. As a mutual beneficial activity, not only did it help with her research project, but also contributed to enterprises solving many technical challenges.
