Zhanjiang strings together violin society meeting and concert

China's top violinists put bow to string from Dec 8 to 10, for the annual meeting and concert of the Chinese Violin Society, held for the first time in Zhanjiang.

More than 60 of the country's eminent musicians, including Yang Guofang, Xie Nan and Gao Can, took part in the concert playing in front of an audience of more than 1,000.
Classics such as Carmen Fantasy, Violin Concerto No 2 and Pastoral were performed to the delight of audiences.

A particular highlight came when Sheng Zhongguo, chairman of the Chinese Violin Society and dubbed the "Chinese Menuhin", played Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto, or Liang Zhu Violin Concerto, with a violin which was made in the year 1725, accompanied by his wife on piano.
Sheng was impressed by the host city. "I love Zhanjiang, it is such a beautiful city," said Sheng. "It is a home to culture and art, a pearl of world cities." He said that more events held by the society will take place in Zhanjiang in the future.

The meeting also included seminars discussing the achievements in the development of violin art and the nurturing of new talents.
The Chinese Violin Society of Chinese Musicians' Assocition was established in 2010 to guide China's advancement in the field of violin and to create exchanges with foreign peers.
