Various Tibetan folk festivals and Buddhist rituals take place in the Gannan every year, including the China Gannan Shambhala Tourism Festival, a significant folk festival for ethnic Tibetans. "Shambhala" means "paradise" or "pure land" in the Tibetan language.

Tibetan sports games such as camel racing are also popular in the Gannan region.
