People planted trees along the banks of the Yellow River on March 12, Tree-planting Day in Yongjing county, Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture, Gansu province to protect "Mother River" by preventing water loss and soil erosion.

The Yellow River, a major river in North China, is called the birthplace of Chinese civilization. It flows eastward into the Yellow Sea through nine provinces, carrying large quantities of yellow silt to its delta.

Gansu province has taken various measures such as planting trees on barren lands and replanting farmland with trees to deal with water loss. It has also undertaken control of pollution, another problem faced by Mother River.

Located at the upstream of the Yellow River, Yongjing county is home to the Liujiaxia Reservoir, an important power station in Gansu, and the Yanguoxia Reservoir. The county government has allocated funds for tree planting along the river.
