Dunhuang receives 156,000 visitors during Golden Week

Dunhuang, a well-known destination in Gansu province, witnessed a tourist wave during the National Day holiday from Oct 1-7.

The city's Singing Sand Mountains and Crescent Spring scenic spot received 156,000 visitors, an increase of 26.23 percent from last year, and tourism revenue exceeded 150 million yuan ($23.64 million), up 25.72 percent, said the Dunhuang's tourism administration on Oct 8.

According to official statistics, more than 10,000 visitors toured the Singing Sand Mountains and Crescent Spring scenic spot on Oct 1, and the total number of tourists broke 12,000 on Oct 2.

Mogao Grottoes, the "Gallery in the Desert", is another tourist attraction in Dunhuang and saw 18,000 tourists on Oct 3, far beyond its one-day maximum receipts.
