Qingyang city started to improve transportation in 2013, because the poor road conditions impeded local economic development.
Known as the "Granary of Eastern Gansu", the crops and livestock of Qingyang are sold in domestic and foreign markets.

More than 300 kinds of traditional Chinese herbal medicine are grown in Qingyang and the State Ministry of Forestry designated the city the "Home of Apricots in China".
The improved road conditions are expected to fuel the local economy and improve local lives, the city says.
