The Fujian mountain sport association was founded on Oct 24, with Pingtan mountaineer Xue Wei being selected as the president.
Xue became a local legend in May when he became the first person from Fujian to scale the world's highest peak Mount Qomolangma, known as Mount Everest to westerners.
Xue hopes the association will promote the study of mountain sports and boost the integration of sport and tourism.
The association also aims to boost international exchange, construct a training system for guides, and help to reduce the number of outdoor sport accidents.
