A total of 4,200 Pingtan students will take part in the national college entrance exam, or gaokao, in June, said the Fujian Provincial Education Examinations Authority on Saturday, April 27.

Among the 255,210 candidates in the province, a slight decline from the 257,564 last year, 39,475 are from Fuzhou, 15,152 from Xiamen, 24,222 from Putian, 20,062 from Sanming, 59,753 from Quanzhou, 28,752 from Zhangzhou, 17,505 from Nanping, 19,766 from Longyan, 26,323 from Ningde, and the remaining 4,200 come from Pingtan, said the bureau.

The exam will last two days from June 7 to 8.

The decline in students is due to a lower birth rate. With college recruitment unchanged, the enrollment rate will go up, said experts.
