A new terminal in Jinjiang Airport, Quanzhou city, Fujian province, was put into operation on Dec 12. The airport now offers more than 20 flights, including routes to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macao and Manila. The Quanzhou frontier inspection office has also utilized a second-generation intelligent verification system.

Originally for military use, Jinjiang Airport was turned into a civil transportation hub on Dec 12, 1996. Reconstruction of the airport started in March 2010 with an investment of 900 million yuan ($144.2 million). New terminals will cover an area of over 40,000 square meters and the parking apron will be extended by 52,300 square meters. The airport will ultimately serve a throughput of four million passengers and 44,000 tons of cargo.
