Mulan Psalm thrills Xi’an

The Chinese opera, Mulan Psalm, was staged at the International Horticultural Expo in Xi’an on May 23 and 24, 2011, the first time the famous troupe has ever performed in Shaanxi province.

The story of Mulan Psalm is based on the Chinese folk heroine who disguises herself as a man to take her father's place in the army.

Soprano Tan Jing and Lei Jia performed the title role, and Li Yuning, conductor of the Orchestra of the PLA's company, and Shunsaku Tsutsumi, artistic director of Japan's Royal Chamber Orchestra, conducted the shows.

The opera was scored by Chinese composer Guan Xia debuted in 2004 and has toured throughout China and the world.
