Abstract: The sound development of social organizations (also known as non-governmental organizations or NGOs) boasts special significance to the construction of a modern country. Based on the research findings of 179 cases of social organizations’ participation in poverty alleviation program over the last two years, it can be seen that great contributions are attributed to social organizations’ work over the years. These organizations, with vast input of resources and the participation of massive social workers, have provided support to solve relevant problems in a targeted, innovative and flexible manner. Different from the poverty alleviation efforts made by the government and enterprises, social organizations enjoy complementary advantages with notable results. However, the work of social organizations needs to be enhanced to become more balanced and professional for sustainable development. In order to address thorny problems facing social organizations, social recognition and empowerment need to be in place and the government needs to provide support through proper supervisions. In the new era and in face of new tasks, this paper notes that the government needs to encourage the participation of social organizations in poverty alleviation cause, push ahead with proper regulation for their further development and establish an underpinning mechanism for the poverty reduction efforts made by social organizations.
