Conference focus on value of music

The eighth China Copyright Annual Conference will begin on Friday, focusing on the value of music in the Internet-Plus era. Participants will discuss how to promote related parties including online music copyright holders to create a music world where copyright is respected and music value is realized. The conference's organizer, the Copyright Society of China, will also have its members' meeting the same day.

Authorities seize fake appliances

Police and the market supervision authority of Foshan's Shunde district have cracked down on a group making counterfeit home appliances. On Nov 12, the police found 228 counterfeit Joyoung soybean milk makers at a logistics company, along with many spare parts. They took two suspects into custody the next day in Zhongshan and more than 14,000 packages with faked labels including Joyoung, Supor and Peskoe at an illegal factory.

Government sets global brand goal

The provincial government plans to develop 500 internationally renowned brands in the next three to five years, according to a meeting held on Monday in Jinan that aimed to share brand building experience. Lyu Wei, deputy director of the provincial Department of Commerce, said many government agencies will cooperate to improve public service and give greater financial support in international certification and IP protection to allow more Shandong brands to become recognized worldwide.

Alliance formed for Internet industry

An intellectual property alliance for the Internet industry was established in Hangzhou last week. Its first 44 members built an IP portal together to share related information and will establish a patent database and corporate IP management system in the future. The alliance has an expert panel to provide customized services to its members.

10 patents selected as award winners

Ten patents were selected last week as winners of the Jiangxi patent award. All the technologies have been commercialized and helped patent holders achieve combined sales revenue of about 8.3 billion yuan ($1.3 billion). Eight of the awarded patents are for strategic emerging industries such as biomedicine, new materials and green food. The award is held every other year.

Cities unite to protect heritage

Eleven cities in the Yangtze River Basin formed a union for intangible cultural heritage protection at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Exposition of the Yangtze River, China 2015, which ran from Saturday through Tuesday in Wuhan. Union members, including Wuhan, Shanghai and Chongqing, aim to learn from each other's heritage protection experience through exchanges. They will also establish cooperation mechanisms among colleges to train heritage professionals and promote the integration of heritage items and cultural industries.
