Semisubmersible drilling rig for Artic finishes trial voyage

China's first home-developed semisubmersible drilling rig that can work in the Arctic finished a 14-day trial voyage last week. Designed and built by Yantai Raffles Offshore, a subsidiary of China International Marine Containers Group, the North Dragon has a maximum racking capacity of 8,000 meters and can work at a temperature of-20 C to cater to the environment in the Barents Sea. The platform will be delivered to Norway's North Sea Rigs at the end of this year.

Platform to improve rubber sector's commercialization

The China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and Rubber Valley Group signed an agreement last week to jointly establish an IP operation platform for the rubber industry. The ceremony was held during the second China International Rubber Industry Expo in Qingdao. The founders will integrate resources of the government, industry associations, technology, talent and financing services to improve the innovation and IP commercialization capacities.

Patents and innovations to be shown at three-day fair

The fifth Guangxi Inventions Achievements Exhibition Fair is scheduled to open on Friday in Yulin. The three-day event will showcase more than 600 of Guangxi's patents and innovations from the past two years that cover a wide range of businesses, including manufacturing, cultural industries and tourism. The fair will have an exhibition area for innovations by small companies and college students. There will also be match-making campaigns for 12 patent projects.

Intellectual property contest awards free copyrights

Eighty-three works won awards in the first Tianxin Cup Internet intellectual property contest of Hunan. The event was launched in April with the theme of respecting knowledge and protecting innovation and IP rights. It attracted more than 2,000 original works including music, photos, advertisements, industrial designs and online literature. All the submitted works were granted free copyrights.

Seal carver finishes G20 summit leader portraits

Qian Gaochao, an inheritor of bloodstone seal carving, a national intangible cultural heritage item, recently finished a series of seals with the theme of the G20 member state leaders to celebrate the G20 summit to be held in Hangzhou in 2016. The head portrait of each leader is carved on a 4-by-5-cm seal. The works took him half a year to finish.

IP center for leather set to cut application times

Approved by the State Intellectual Property Office, China's first IP rights rapid processing center for the leatherware industry was established in Guangzhou's Huadu district. The center will grant design patents to local leatherware makers within 30 working days after an application is filed. Before, the process usually took half a year. The process to investigate a design infringement is also expected to be cut from half a year to a month. Shiling township in the district is home to 8,800 leather companies with more than 300,000 employees.
