Patent applications in Karamay exceed 1,000

By the end of 2013, the patent applications of Karamay exceeded 1,000, Karamay Daily reported. According to statistics from the intellectual property bureau of Karamay, during the last five years, the number of patent applications in Karamay increased by more than 20 percent every year.

The number of patent applications was only 440 in 2009. The patent applications in Karamay started to increase in 2010. In that year, applications reached 555. The growing number of patent applications in Karamay is due to the issue of the Intellectual Property Strategy Outline. Applications soared to 737 in 2011. In 2013, Karamay’s enterprises (including the central enterprise’s branches in Karamay) applied for 1,016 patents in total, with a year-on-year growth of 29.3 percent.

With the increase of patent applications, patent applicants have also changed. In 2013, local enterprises and institutions submitted 477 patent applications, roughly 46.95 of total applications. In addition, local enterprises and institutions have made positive contributions to the rapid growth of patent applications.
