Key economic indicators of high-tech enterprises above a designated size in Zhongguancun Science Park (January – September, 2014)

According to the statistical data of enterprises above a designated size from January to September 2014, the total income of Zhongguancun Science Park reached 2.24 trillion yuan ($366 billion) with a year-on-year growth of 15.2 percent; the gross industrial output value reached 566.4 billion yuan, accounting for more than 40 percent of the city’s total; the current employed population reached 1.71 million with a year-on-year growth of 3.3 percent; the actual paid-in taxes reached 124.88 billion yuan with a year-on-year growth of 28.6 percent; the gross profit was 174.92 billion yuan with a year-on-year growth of 39.8 percent; the total export volume was $23.24 billion with a year-on-year growth of 15.4 percent, occupying nearly half of the city’s total; internal expenses on science and technology activities came to 71.55 billion yuan with a year-on-year increase of 7.7 percent; and the employees of science and technology activities numbered 440,000 with a year-on-year growth of 2 percent, occupying over one quarter of the total employees in the park. In the first three quarters, the enterprises in Zhongguancun applied for 29,314 patents in total, seeing a year-on-year growth of 16.6 percent and accounting for 31.2 percent of the gross patent applications of the whole city during the corresponding period.

About 59.2 percent of them are patents of invention, bringing the total number to 17,346 with a year-on-year growth of 19.8 percent and accounting for 31.8 percent of the city’s total.

Some enterprises in the park applied for more than 1,000 patents, including Lenovo and BOE.

By the end of September, the enterprises in Zhongguancun Science Park have obtained 33,639 patents of invention, which accounted for 65.8 percent of the total of all enterprises in the city during the same period.

The number of enterprises that have obtained more than 100 patents of invention is 43.
