While Reader's Digest has filed for bankruptcy protection, Duzhe (Reader), the most popular Chinese general interest magazine, is going strong for the 28th straight year.

The magazine has been included in the newly released "60 Years, 60 Brands" by CCTV.net, an award-winning list of brands with the most influence in society. Duzhe is the only cultural product to be included.

The magazine has kicked off a series of charity activities to recognize the support of its readers.

From next year, Duzhe will donate 1 cent of every copy it sells to a foundation for training teachers. It will also provide financial support to poor university students.

Founded in 1981 in Lanzhou, Northwest China's Gansu province, Duzhe features small stories but tells big truths, and hopes to be the Chinese people's "chicken soup".
