MANILA - The death toll of Typhoon Nanmadol in the Philippines rose to 12, while 21 others were reportedly injured and nine are still missing, the National Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday morning.

The Baguio city had four fatalities, the provinces of Pangasinan and Benguet recorded two fatalities each, and one each from the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Zambales, Catanduanes, and Quezon city, NDRRMC executive director Benito Ramos said.

The latest death toll came from Quezon city as a concrete wall collapsed, which also injured five others.

Nine people were reportedly missing from areas affected by the typhoon.

In Ilocos Norte, the provincial board declared a state of calamity due to widespread flooding and displacement.

In Pangasinan, five houses were swept away by strong current at the Bued River in Barangay Binday in San Fabian town. The river current also eroded three hectares of farm land in the village.

The government has pegged to almost one billion pesos ($22.5 million) the initial cost of damages to infrastructure, agriculture and school buildings.

The typhoon has maintained its strength as it moves away from the Philippines. Under its influence, many parts of Luzon region in north Philippines still have rains, including occasional rainstorms, on Monday.
